Special Issue on Total Water Cycle

The Challenges in Environmental Science and Engineering, CESE-2011

25 – 30 Sept. Ever Green Plaza Hotel, Tainan City, Taiwan

"Challenges in Environmental Science & Engineering", CESE International Conference Series is an annual event initiated by Associate Professor Jega V. Jegatheesan and Dr. Li Shu both of whom are currently attached to Deakin University, Australia. Researchers, policy-makers, academics, students and the broader community active in contributing solutions to the myriad of environmental questions posed by the challenges facing environmental sustainability are the consistent participants of CESE series.

This special issue presents 8 interesting research articles which cover total water cycle starting from river water quality to recycled water. The following questions have been raised in those articles and useful solutions have been provided through extensive research:

How good is the quality of water in rivers? What does the relationship between turbidity and suspended solids of river water reveal about the quality of water in Singapore Rivers?

How toxic are certain chemicals to aquatic organisms and how to use certain indicators?

Understanding the links between microbial communities and biological processes.

How to modify wastewater treatment systems to produce high quality effluents from onsite treatment?

How to develop treatment systems for persistent pollutants?

How to develop polishing treatment processes for tertiary treated effluents?

Reclaiming treated wastewater and statistical analysis of such recycled water schemes.

We strongly believe, this special issue will contribute significantly to further the existing knowledge in research areas that have been discussed.

The Guest Editors of this special issue are thankful to the Editors-in-Chief of the Journal of Water Sustainability, Assoc. Professor Huu Hao Ngo and Professor Xiaochang Wang for providing an opportunity to publish selected papers that were presented at CESE-2011 after peer review. Thanks are also due to the Journal Manager Dr. Wenshan Guo, Ms. Cong Fei and the entire production team of the journal for their valuable support in bringing out this issue. Last but not least, our sincere appreciation to all the reviewers who did an excellent job in critically reviewing the manuscripts that were submitted for the special issue. We look forward to many more participants for CESE-2012 which will be held from the 9th to the 13th of September in Melbourne, Australia.
